  THIS ALL BEGAN...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic  ...back in 1978 when I was barely eighteen years old...

...while I was out on a date playing music with a young man I had just met who was in his mid-twenties, (by the way I married that wonderful man and I'm still living happily ever after!) and who while playing his guitar sang out a song for me with these lyrics by Neil Young:

"Country girl I think you're pretty,
Got to make you understand,
Have no lovers in the city,
Let me be your country man."

He also sang me this song, saying he meant from his heart what the lyrics said:

“I'm looking for a hard-headed woman...
One who will make me do my best.
And when I find my hard-headed woman...
I know the rest of my life will be blessed!!!
Yes! Yes! Yes!”

~ I had been living a crazy fast-paced "City-Girl" lifestyle, but as I listened to his "Country Girl" song, and heard his heart's cry for a strong, hard-headed woman to come bless his life and call forth from him all that he was capable of being, I felt a stirring inside as the song brought back to me gentle memories of who I really was at heart...a strong "Pioneer Spirited" woman, and... just a "Country Girl".

That was way back in May of 1978, and now here I am 30 years later in 2008!

Well I was raised a "Country Girl", harvesting, then drying or canning the fruit from the orchards of cherries, pears, plums and apples, and picking blackberries and strawberries by the many many pounds for the wonderful preserves and home-made wine, along with raising chickens for their wonderful eggs, and growing produce organically for canning and freezing long before it was even considered fashionable and as the best way to grow them. And I also worked on a farm that specialized in succession planting from the time I was 12 until I was 16.

Then as a mother, I raised my children in all the ways that a "Country Girl/Mama" should, but when my children "flew the coop" (so to speak) I gave away all my livestock, shut down my organic farm dream, and spent the next 7 years doing a 40 mile commute to the city Monday through Friday, forgetting all about my "Country Girl" dreams in the eagerness of becoming a cool city-girl career-woman.

But then (as Providence would have it) a long illness hit me and I was unable to work from January of 2006, until January of 2008, so I just hung out and recouped here at my little farm. But while I was healing up, the joy of my old dream of Sustainable Living, Organic Farming, and having Pasture-Raised hens for their wonderful eggs, slowly crept back up on me!!!

And now that I've recovered...

...I'm rebuilding my childhood dream of "Living off the Land", and I've started a business of selling "Large Farm-Fresh Brown Eggs" and "CSA-Memberships" on our farm, which my husband Rich has named "ANGEL SONG ACRES" because we feel we hear Angels singing, along with spiritual lyrics and wonderful melodies in the breezes when we're out here!!!

I also plan to turn this farm into a beautiful park for bicycle rides or sensational strolls down sweet trails and paths, that will weave in and around the gardens and where the hens peruse the pastures, with a little pond where we can go fishing!!!
