History of Reflexology:
The therapeutic benefits of reflexology have been utilized for over 4,000 years. A hieroglyph was taken out of a physician's tomb in Egypt during an archaeological investigation. On this hieroglyph there depicts two reflexology treatments in session. One treatment is for the hands, one for the feet. The translated inscription reads, "Please don't hurt me (said by the recipient)", and the reply reads, "I will act so you praise me (a reply from the practitioner)". The historical lineage from the days of the Ancient Egyptians is unknown, but the efficacy is very well documented by reflexologists around the world.

Who can benefit from Reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. After you have completed a course of reflexology treatment for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
While many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, at the same time many doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognize reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.
With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important people take more responsibility for their own health care needs. Reflexology helps us to cope on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby encouraging us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet & hands to help heal the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms.

Face Reflexology
Face reflexology is similar to the more widespread practice of foot and hand reflexology, only face reflexology uses Andrean body maps to locate stimulation points on the face that are correlated with specific organs or organ systems. Like traditional reflexology, this practice involves the stimulation of these points on the face as a method of stimulating self-healing responses in other parts of the body.
Face reflexology goes beyond this simple massage technique, comprised of the combination of three unique practices: acupressure, the Chinese theory of energy meridians and the ancient practice of Andrean body mapping, followed by a gentle massage (using fingertips) of facial acupressure points. The 12 energy meridian points are then stimulated through a different kind of massage. The session ends with a massage tailored to the results of body mapping and a health assessment, focusing on the areas of your face which will trigger a healing response in the parts of your body that need the most attention. Sessions last for 50 minutes.
Face reflexology can be used to treat specific ailments, but it is mostly used as a general health-care practice. The massage techniques used will improve circulation, encourage drainage of the lymph nodes and make your complexion brighter and clearer. You should feel relaxed, yet invigorated at the end of your reflexology session.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being.
How an Essential Oil Differs from other Oils
Essential oils and fatty/vegetable oils are two completely different types of oils. Understanding that essential oils are volatile by nature (most essential oils tend to evaporate or change to vapor quickly when exposed to air) should help to dispel frequent confusion about the relationship between essential oils and fatty/vegetable oils such as Almond oil or Sesame oil.
It is both interesting and useful to note that essential oils are soluble in fatty/vegetable oils. Because of this, in Aromatherapy, fatty/vegetable oils are called carrier oils. Since essential oils are often too potent to be used directly on the skin full strength, diluting an essential oil in a carrier oil is an excellent way to facilitate safe use of the essential oil. Carrier and essential oils also compliment one another’s effects in a synergistic way; they are nourishing and easily absorbed by the skin.
Absorption of Essential Oils
In Aromatherapy it is held that essential oils have a relatively small, simple and lipid-soluble molecular structure that allows them to pass easily through the skin. Once diluted essential oil is applied directly to the skin it is completely absorbed and penetrates deeply into the tissues, interstitial fluid and bloodstream. Different oils have varying rates of absorption, between 20 and 120 minutes.
In the field of Aromatherapy it is held that in skin care essential oils regulate the activity of capillaries and restore vitality to the tissues. In Marguerite Maury’s- “Guide to Aromatherapy”, she states “essential oils are natural rejuvenating agents which facilitate the elimination of waste matter and dead cells and promote the regeneration of new and healthy cells.” In Aromatherapy it is held that when essential oils are applied in a body massage, they are carried to specific organs and systems of the body where they enhance the natural functions of these organs.
In aromatherapy it is held that simply inhaling an essential oil elicits an immediate olfactory response and provides for ready absorption in the bloodstream. Essential oils as implied by the term “Aromatherapy”, have a powerful effect through our sense of smell. Smell (olfaction) is the least understood of our five senses and yet is perhaps the most powerful. The olfactory membrane is the only place in the human body where the central nervous system is exposed and in direct contact with the environment. When an olfactory receptor cell is stimulated, an impulse travels along the olfactory nerve to the limbic portion of the brain where memory, hunger, sexual response or emotion is evoked. Before consciously knowing we are in contact with an aroma, our subconscious mind has already received and reacted to it.
